I love Wellman's. The staff is always friendly and courteous, and the drinks are great. I also LOVE the Portabella Mushroom pizza with adding chicken. It is my favorite pizza, anywhere. It is the default watering hole for my best friend and me. We are here at least 3-4x a week. It can get pretty busy on weekends, but our personal favorite time to go there is during the daytime when it's a calmer atmosphere. I have never had a bad experience there. Good food, courteous staff with good service (especially when seated at the bar), and reasonably priced, well-made drinks. I really can't ask for much more in a pub. I highly recommend them.

Just got off work was very hungry and remember that the chicken parmesan was on special this evening for $8.95. The food was delicious and decided to stay around for a couple drinks. I took a phone call on the patio and to my return to the bar I saw a young "professional" celebrating her birthday. Her gentlemen friend must have been a gynecologist, I've never seen more fingers dissappear so quickly. It reminded me of a puppeteer. Needless to say conditions at the bar were less than appropriate.... The sandwich was finger licking good!

I really dig Wellman's Pub's patio! It's perfect for warm summer night sipping on a brew, wine, or one of their fancy old fashioned mix drinks! The inside seems more sports bar style, but the patio is one of the best in the city, it huge and is risen on a deck so you over look the business of Ingersol ave! It's perfect! Food is your standard bar fare and beware vegans, not to much to choose from but the staff will hook you up with something so go give it a try and see what they come up with! On Tuesday nights they have a team trivia!

Wellman's is average at best. From the menue, prices, drinks, pretty much everything. That doesn't mean it ks terrible but it isn't particularly memorable either. Also, don't order their pizza. It really doesn't sound like a good idea anyway. Pretty sure it is just a cheap frozen pizza that you could make yourself for less $.

They do have fries! A once very popular place to hang out has lost some of its pzazz. Seat yourself. Staff are friendly. Decent menu to choose from. Full bar available. Booths and tables are larger and comfortable. Outdoors seating available. Quick service and willing to clear your table when you are done with your meal. All in all it is a local lovely that I love. It's calmer now, usually, which is nice for conversation.

My review is more for their Thursday night wing nights. For 8 bucks a person, you can't beat the unlimited wings. Each order consists of 8 wings and you can change the flavor each time. The service is slow on wing night but that is expected for the price. The wings are pretty big and full of flavor. Their sweet potato fries and shoestring onion rings were also good.

We come here primarily for the trivia night. We do not eat here much at all as we all eat before we come. I have had a wrap here that wasn't too bad. The drinks are your normal drinks. The trivia night is fun! In the Summer, this place never seems to cool down inside.

Is there anything less than one star? This place is obviously disorganized. We went to see a show by a talented live performer last night, estimated time: 8 p.m. upon arrival, we found that the "manager" had made the decision to delay the show by more than 3 hours because she forgot there was an Iowa v. Iowa State game. Fair decision, right? I mean, they are a business and need to look out for their best interest, I respect that. What is appalling is that there was no attempt to contact the performer until he arrived with equipment in hand. Very convenient, because most people that had made plans to see the show had already ordered food and drink. Once confronted about this, the manager decided to take the rest of the night off, leaving two incompetent bartenders in charge who were unable to give any kind of logical reason for the decision. Meanwhile, soccer was played over the big screen while nobody sporting any sort of iowa/iowa state gear sat confused. I watched drinks be returned to the bar (as the patrons that ordered them were there for the promised entertainment) be "resold" to other tables. This place is shady, poorly run, and has zero pride in how they operate their business. They should be ashamed. They are a skidmark in a community that is proud of it's commitment to midwest values. Patronizing this business is nothing short of a slap in the face of prideful, respectful, honest establishments. Please DO NOT GO THERE.

It's a bar, looks like it has seen better days but I guess you could say it has a "lived-in" ambiance. Crowd is kind of questionable, but the bar food is pretty good and drinks aren't too expensive. I sat at the bar and saw waitresses sniffing people's pints and accidentally putting their nose into it, wiping it off, and taking the tray out to the patio, so YMMV. Bring some hand sanitizer.

I remember going here back in the late 90's and DANG they fired up good bar food. SRSLY. Nowadays, meh. Not so much. Star Bar is WAY better.

Wellman's is a solid neighborhood bar with lots of wooden booths and tables inside - and a great patio outside. The crowd can get a little sketchy on the weekends, but on a weeknight this is a pretty good place to meet up with friends for a couple of drinks. Their patio is one of the biggest on Ingersoll, and the beer selection is pretty good. That said, the food is not worth ordering here, so if you're after bar food, I'd go down the block and hit up Zimm's instead. I would probably not order food here again - that bad. Service can be a little questionable sometimes too. But overall it's a pretty straightforward pub with a nice patio.

We've been here a few times, and it's fine as a stop along Ingersoll or for a drink on the patio before heading downtown. But we came here on the Sunday before Labor Day for a friend's birthday - we were bar hopping down Ingersoll, and this was stop #2. Now I get it that it was a Sunday, so maybe they weren't expected 12 people to roll through their door at 7pm, but it was Sunday on a long weekend. If I were a bar owner, I'd be staffed up and running specials all night long! Anyway, we got the dimmest waitress in all of Des Moines. When we asked for menus, she brought one. One menu for 12 people. Our drinks took forever, they came out one at a time. She messed up two of the drink orders. It took her days to come back with a few more menus for the group, and by that time, the couple with us who had ordered at the bar were already done with their meals. By that point, when she finally came and asked if we were ready to order, we were done and decided to move on to the next stop (Star Bar, BTW, where we had pretty darn speedy service despite being pretty packed, and the food was delicious!)

Just went here for a drink. Good mix in the crowd. A lot of tale.

For such a great building, the staff, food, and crowd are underwhelming.

Wellman's is a good bar for meeting up with friends. You know the type of place, it's not pretentious, looks well-used, just has a relaxed vibe to it. I have come here twice to reconnect with friends from High School I hadn't seen in 9 years and it really was the perfect venue for it. The beer selection is nice for Des Moines and the pitchers are reasonably priced. The bar is spacious with enough booths and tables to go around. Erotic photo hunt keeps the place classy. Bonus: It is Big Tomato accessible.

Used to be good. Turned sketchtastic . Tons of douchebags in backwards hats and sports jerseys. Seems like a favorite hangout for those that failed out of college and are still living off of mom and dad. Small Drake undergrad contingent too. Everytime I have been there in the past six months fights have broken out.... on quiet weekday nights. If you want a patio go to the beechwood. Food has always and will always suck.

I miss Wellman's. I also miss the way it used to be. Yes, we have no fries? Who brought the fries? I am not impressed. At any rate, you still have the best patio in town and a great place for a night out in Des Moines. The perfect combination of fun, laid-back, casual and cool. I know it's been open for 20 some years, but it's still trendy to show up at Wellman's. And for that - I love you.
